MG Hector to offer OTA connected car technology; amongst the first in India

The soon to be launched MG Hector is going to offer ‘over the air’ connected car technology making its the first vehicle in India to do so.

MG Motors is all set to launch its first product in the Indian market, a compact SUV by the name of the Hector. The iconic British automobile manufacturer, currently owned by the Chinese auto-giant SIAC, will launch itso second product in India, an electric SUV, in the fourth-quarter of 2019. The Hector is expected to be priced in-between the range of INR 12 Lakh to INR 18 lakh. With this, it is going to compete against the likes of the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks among others.

So far, there have been a number of details regarding the MG Hector, leaked in the media, going by which it seems that the same is going to arrive in India with a number of unique features. For instance, this MG SUV is going to get a panoramic sunroof, a vertical infotainment system, dual-zone climate control a number of other creature comforts as well.

However, there is one other important feature which will not only differentiate the MG Hector from its immediate competition but with the rest of the cars currently on sale in India. MG Motors is going to launch the Hector with OTA (Over The Air) connected car technology in the Indian market. Called as the ‘ismart connected cars’, it will work with the help of an onboard device present on the car which houses a SIM card. The device on the vehicle will communicate to a mobile network with the help of which the user can get access to a whole array of services.

The connected car technology in the MG Hector will not be limited to monitoring various features of the vehicle but also provide the user with a number of other comforts. For instance, this system is envisioned to offer data related to passenger health, provide features related to artificial intelligence, games, online transactions, vehicle parking, toll-tax payment to name a few. MG Motors will be revealing in detail about the features of its new ismart connected car technology on the 2nd of April 2019.

Talking about the MG Hector, this vehice is based on the Baojun 530 and is coming to India with petrol and diesel engines in its portfolio. The petrol derivative is going to be a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit while the diesel engine is going to be a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. Manual as well as DCT automatic transmission options will be on offer.
