Toyota Glanza is different from Maruti Baleno. We tell you five things about upcoming premium hatchback.

Toyota Glanza will be launching tomorrow and it sure looks like the restyled Maruti Baleno but it does keep you intrigued that what makes it different from its cousin. Well, we tell you a total of five things you can expect from the upcoming Toyota Glanza.

The Glanza comes as a result of a partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota where they have agreed to share cars between themselves and there will be many more such models in the future.

Exteriors

The Glanza looks exactly similar to its cousin, the Baleno, except for some changes to the face. The grille has been slightly redesigned and features two horizontal slats with the Toyota badging in the middle. Even the alloy designs remain the same. At the rear, there sits a Toyota badge instead of the Suzuki badge and the Glanza nameplate.

The interiors also remain the same as the Baleno. The all-black theme, the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the instrument cluster, all remain the same except for the Toyota badging on the steering wheel. The Glanza gets the “Smart Playcast” infotainment system and it is the first car from Toyota to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Engine

The Glanza sources its power from a 1.2L, VVT, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine which churns out 82 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. The engine too has been sourced from Maruti Suzuki and has been made BS-VI compliant to meet the new emission norms.

It also gets the mild hybrid 1.2-litre DaulJet engine which generates 90 bhp with a 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT. The certified ARAI mileage for the mild hybrid stands at 23.97 kmpl while for the normal petrol engine it stands at 21.01 kmpl.

Variants

The Glanza will be offered in just two variants – a base ‘G’ and a top-spec ‘V’ variant. These trims correspond the Baleno’s ‘Zeta’ and ‘Alpha’ trim respectively. However, the Glanza will come pretty loaded even in the base variant and you can expect it to be priced considerably higher than the base trim of the Baleno.

Prices and Warranty

The Toyota Glanza is expected to be priced from around Rs. 7.0 lakhs to Rs. 7.7 lakhs (ex-showroom). Also Toyota is good with warranties and expect the Glanza to have a 3 year factory warranty or 100,000 kms, which ever is earliest.

When launched, the Glanza will take on the likes of the Hyundai i20, the Honda Jazz, the Volkswagen Polo and its own sister, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. This premium hatchback segment has got quite congested over the years and it would be interesting to see these cars fight it out.
