New Mahindra Scorpio (Codenamed Z101) was spotted testing in Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu and will be based on the updated ladder-frame chassis. This will provide lower body roll and better stability than previous generations of Scorpio.

The SUV will receive a completely new silhouette and mechanicals. From the pictures, the SUV will get an upright nose and new grille design. Moving onto the side profile, the car gets large doors which means slightly longer wheelbase than the on-going model. The rear of the car has been restyled as well to give it a fresh look.

On the interiors, it is safe to say that the cabin and dashboard of the car will be revised totally. It’s not confirmed what quality of interiors can be expected but New Mahindra Scorpio may get a front facing third-row seat for all variants.

New Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by all-new BS-VI compliance 2.0-litre diesel engine that may churn out around 160bhp with 400Nm of torque. The SUV will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic variant can be expected at a later stage. This new engine will come with various tunes and will come in the next-gen Mahindra Thar and new-gen Mahindra XUV500, both of which are co-developed with Ford.

On the safety front, New Mahindra Scorpio will be safety equipped following all the norms Indian government will set before its launch in 2020.

Once launched, Mahindra Scorpio will take on the likes of already established Hyundai Creta and Tata Harrier. It will also compete with the upcoming MG Hector and Kia Motors. The prices for the SUV will be increased due to the new technology that makes the car suffice for the upcoming safety norms and the BS-VI emission norms.
