Ampere Magnus EX Electric Scooter Catches Fire

In a latest incident, an Ampere Magnus EX electric scooter catches fire. Electric scooter explosions are rather common in our market. This is particularly true in the last couple of years. As more new players enter the market, we witness an increasing number of EVs catching fire. The reasons are quite straightforward. These new EV startups are sourcing cheap electrical components from China and setting up their shops as new electric scooter manufacturers in India. But the proper quality checks are not present. As a result, these EVs explode. Here are the details of this latest case.

This latest case emerges from EV Mind on YouTube. The visuals capture a rather disappointing and concerning instance. A man is seen putting water on an electric scooter which is on fire. The flames are seen emerging from underneath, where the battery is placed. In most fire cases with EVs, batteries are getting exploded and this is where the fire starts. By the end of the video, the entire scooter is seen engulfed in flames. There is barely anything left of the scooter. The fires starting from EV batteries are quite violent and not easy to douse.

We have not received any more details about this specific case. But the video has some clips from what looks like a news channel. The location mentioned in the video is Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Reportedly, an entire Ampere showroom caught fire there recently. That is a concerning information. Apart from that, the video also brings forth the issue of a broken suspension in the Ampere electric scooters. A man is seen with his electric scooter broken into two pieces in the middle of the road. This, again, goes to show the poor build quality of these products.

Author’s Note

Unfortunately, the cases of subpar build quality and fire explosions in electric scooters are on the rise. It is time we start considering the choices we make while purchasing new EVs. While the attractive prices of electric scooters from new companies might seem enticing on the surface, we must understand the risk we are taking by going for these EVs. Not to mention, the fires in electric car batteries are almost impossible to contain since they are caused by chemical reactions of the battery components. In essence, the fuel needed for the fire is being supplied by the battery itself. That’s why these fires can go on for upto 3 days as well. Let us pledge to be safe and avoid buying from such companies who use cheap components.
