Australian Expert Reviews Mahindra Scorpio N

Mahindra Scorpio N has been making all the headlines since its launch in the Australian market.

An Australian car expert gives his impressions of the new Mahindra Scorpio N that has been launched Down Under. In that market, the SUV is simply called Scorpio (without the ‘N’). It is the Made-in-India model that has been exported across the ocean. Mahindra has been a prominent player in the Australian market for quite some time now. However, it was more popular in manufacturing rugged SUVs or agricultural vehicles. But with the likes of the XUV700 and Scorpio N, it is challenging the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which are more expensive.

The video has been uploaded by The Right Cars? on YouTube. The vlogger has the Scorpio N for a detailed review. He starts with the exterior and acknowledges the sheer size of the SUV. It is not colossal but is not small either. In fact, it offers a modern look, especially compared to the last-gen model which was also on sale Down Under. Moving to the inside, he highlights the top features including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, leather-wrapped steering, powered driver’s seat, physical buttons, rotary drive mode selector, comfortable seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, soft-touch Coffee Brown materials on the dashboard and more.

He also sits in the second row. Note that this is a 3-row SUV with a 6-seater arrangement which means that the second row has captain seats. There is plenty of legroom and headroom, and there are rear AC vents but the room in the third row is marginal and only enough for children or shorter people. Due to the third row, there is not a lot of boot space on offer either. However, that changes drastically once the third row is folded. He also likes the way it drives in terms of engine refinement and smooth automatic transmission.

Specs

Mahindra Scorpio comes powered by a sole 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 129 kW and 400 Nm of peak power and torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. One could sequester around 7.2 l / 100 km of fuel economy from the SUV which is decent for a car of this segment. Scorpio offers a 7-year / 150,000 km warranty and a 7-year RSA. The prices for the comprehensive service packages will be announced shortly. There are two trims on offer – Z8 for $41,990 and Z8 L for $45,990. These are introductory prices.

What We Think

We have watched a ton of reviews from professional Australian car experts about the Scorpio. The conclusion that most of them offer is the fact that the Scorpio might not be perfect in every department, but it is a great all-rounder that does all things well. What is the most favourable aspect is its pricing. When considering that, there are hardly any real rivals that can match all that the Scorpio can do at this price point. There are products like the Fortuner and Pajero that command a premium and SUVs like Jimny that might be cheaper but too small and almost impractical with 4 seats. Hence, Scorpio strikes a great balance for being a value-for-money proposition.
