The BS6 Hyundai Venue will get a new 1.5L diesel engine from the Kia Seltos in place of the current 1.4L unit and along with that, some additional features as well.

The Hyundai Venue is set to receive its BS6 update very soon. With the BS6 update, Hyundai will replace the current 1.4L diesel unit in the Venue with a new 1.5L diesel engine. As you might have already guessed, this 1.5L diesel mill will be is the same unit that is offered on the Kia Seltos. Along with a new engine, Hyundai will also introduce some additional features in the Venue.

The BS6 Hyundai Venue will be offered in the same number of variants as the BS4-spec Venue. That also includes the dual-tone colour options on the higher-spec SX, SX+ and SX(O) trims. With the BS6 updates, the entry-level Venue E and the mid-spec S variants will get an Alternator Management System (AMS) that is meant to increase battery life. The higher-spec SX will get a tyre pressure monitoring system, while the SX+ (which is automatic only) and SX(O) will get an additional 12-volt power outlet as well.

The new 1.5L diesel engine in the Venue will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, just like the Kia Seltos. However, the Seltos uses a variable geometry turbocharger whereas the Venue will use a fixed geometry turbocharger. What that means is that the Venue will produce lesser outputs than the Seltos. The 1.5L engine puts out 115hp and 250Nm of peak torque in the Seltos. For the Venue, the engine is expected to produce 90hp and 220Nm of torque, numbers similar to the outgoing 1.4L diesel unit.

In fact, this 1.5L diesel engine is also expected to feature in the next-gen Hyundai i20 with similar output figures. There are talks of this engine making into the lower spec models of the Verna facelift as well. As for the current-gen i20, it will continue as a petrol-only model until the next-gen model is introduced in India in June 2020.

The Venue will continue to rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV300, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport. As for its rivals, XUV300 already comes with a BS6 petrol engine and it will get a BS6 diesel engine soon. The Vitara Brezza now gets only a BS6 petrol engine. As for the Nexon facelift and the Ford Ecosport, they are the only compact SUVs on sale right now with BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines.

Even with the BS6 update, the Venue will still not get an automatic gearbox option with the diesel engine. That already puts the BS6 Tata Nexon, the soon-to-arrive BS6 XUV300 andย Kia Sonetย at an advantage with the diesel-automatic options. It remains to be seen how Hyundai revises the price of the BS6 Venue diesel with its additional features. The current BS4 diesel retails between Rs 7.80-10.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
