BS6 Diesel Engine

The prices of BS6 Mahindra KUV 100 Petrol have been revealed. It will come in three variants to choose from and a standard 6-seater configuration.

Mahindra has silently upgraded the KUV 100 with a BS6 compliant petrol engine. The bookings for it has commenced across Mahindra dealerships and the deliveries are scheduled to commence in a week or two. First, it will be launched officially.

BS6 compliant Mahindra KUV 100 will come in three variants – K2+, K4+ and K8. Here are the variant wise prices of the same:

VariantPrice Ex-showroom
K2+5.50 Lakhs
K4+5.96 Lakhs
K87.12 Lakhs

The price of K2+ variant has increased by Rs 18,000 and that of K4+ variant by Rs 16,000. The top-end variant is costlier by Rs 11,000. The price range of KUV 100 used to start off earlier at Rs 5.32 Lakhs up to Rs 7.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

It continues with its same 1.2 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing 83 BHP and 115 Nm of peak torque. Now, with the BS6 engine, a 5-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, without the option of an automatic.

With this, Mahindra has discontinued the diesel engine of KUV 100. It used to come with a 1.2 Litre mFalcon turbo-charged diesel engine. The engine produces 77 BHP and 190 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Due to the upcoming BS6 norms and generally low sales of KUV 100, Mahindra decided to discontinue its diesel engine. The costs of converting this engine were going very high. As a result, many Mahindra cars like XUV 500, Scorpio and Thar will also get new diesel engines.

Features on the KUV 100 include diamond-cut 15-inch alloy wheels, driver seat height adjustment, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, DRLs, Steering Mounted Audio and Phone Controls and electric adjustment for ORVMs.

Safety features include front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, day/night function auto IRVM, speed sensing auto door lock and ISOFIX mounts. The micro-SUV received its last update in 2017, following which, there were no major upgrades.

KUV 100 was the first micro-SUV in India and still, there is no one in the segment. We have the S-Presso and Renault Kwid as SUV-type hatchbacks, but they are smaller than KUV 100. Tata Motors is working on the H2X or its upcoming micro-SUV, soon to be launched. We also have reports suggesting that even Hyundai is working towards this space.
