While there were rumours that Volkswagen has discontinued the Polo TSI Edition, we can confirm they have not.

Volkswagen launched the BS6 Polo just sometime before the lockdown. However, the deliveries could not commence in March but later in June. The prices were definitely hiked because it got a new engine and gearbox options. In May, they also bought in the TSI Edition which was cheaper and more VFM.

However, recently, there were rumours suggesting that Volkswagen has stopped taking the bookings for Polo TSI Edition across the country. It was even taken off the website but is now back. VW has confirmed that the TSI Edition has not been discontinued and will be sold at the same price as earlier.

Polo TSI Edition is the base variant for the turbo petrol engine which comes with most of the features found in upper variants. Prior to that, the entry TSI variant was the Highline Plus which is priced for 8.02 Lakhs. The TSI variant is cheaper by just Rs 13,000 but comes with its exclusive badging.

The TSI Edition gets a honeycomb grille, black ORVMs, black rear spoiler, bodyside graphics and the TSI branding on doors. Some of these cosmetic bits are directly seen on the GT variant and not even on the Highline Plus. We are not sure if the demand for this particular variant was higher than the company’s expectation.

Polo TSI gets a 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that is good for 110 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque. Obviously, it is again the most powerful hatchback in India. This engine comes with the options of a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The MPI engine continues to produce 75 PS and comes with a 5-speed MT.

Right now, deliveries only for manual variants have commenced across the country. As for the AT variants, their production will begin next month and then, their deliveries will commence. We will be driving it soon, so stay tuned to know if the new Volkswagen Polo TSI is better or not.
