Citroen C4 Cactus

This mid-sized SUV from Citroen is already under development. The Hyundai Creta rival will be loosely based on the C4 Cactus sold internationally.

We all know that Citroen will start operations in India from 2020 and their first car is going to be the C5 Aircross. Citroen has already drawn up plans much beyond 2020. Their second product in India will be a compact SUV which will go on sale in 2021. Come 2022, Citroen will have their third product for the Indian market which will be a mid-sized SUV meant to go as a Hyundai Creta rival.

This mid-sized SUV from Citroen is already under development. The Hyundai Creta rival will be loosely based on the C4 Cactus that is available in the international market. However, like the other Citroen products, the car will be heavily localised to keeps costs on check and it will also be particularly modified and built specifically for the Indian market.

Quirky Styling has always been Citroen’s signature and expect that in this mid-sized SUV too. The interiors will also be quite well appointed, carrying the same quirky design language on the interiors as well. As for the powertrains, this Hyundai Creta rival will most likely use the same powertrain from the Citroen compact SUV, but perhaps in a higher state of tune.

The engine line-up is expected to include a 1.2L, turbo petrol engine and a 1.5L, diesel engine. As is the trend in the automotive industry, there will be some level of hybridization too. This would anyway become a norm in the coming years to meet the RDE or real-world driving emission tests that come into effect in 2023.

As for the Hyundai Creta, that too will be in its second generation by the time the Citroen mid-sized SUV makes it into the market. This segment is growing crowded by the day and is seeing some real intense competition. It will also rival the Kia Seltos which will be released very soon in India and even Tata has a new SUV lined up in this segment which has been code named the Blackbird.
