Ducati India have launched the Hypermotard 950 in India, today, at a price of Rs. 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India). Bookings now open across all Ducati dealerships. The Hypermotard 950 was first showcased ta the EICMA 2018 and it is essentially a replacement for the previous Hypermotard 939. The Hypermotard 950 gets a revised engine which now develops more power and torque and it also gets a host of electronic goodies.
You simply can’t ignore the styling of the Hypermotard 950, can you? The motorcycle looks largely the same but the rear section has been redesigned as the iconic underseat dual exhausts make a comeback. The short beak with the LED headlamps, minimalistic body work, exposed mechanicals, and exposed rear Trellis sub-frame – all give the Hypermotard 950 a scintillating look.
The riding position has also been thoroughly revised. The new Hypermotard 950 sports a new handlebar, narrower side profile and a new seat, featuring a flat, extended profile and a moderate bulge in the passenger area for improved comfort. The motorcycle is also 4 kgs lighter than before for improved agility.
As for the engine, it continues with the 937cc Testastretta L-Twin cylinder engine from the 939. However, the engine has been revised for better low-end performance and it now produces 114.2 bhp and 96 Nm of peak torque, 4bhp and 1 Nm more than before. The engine is also 1.5 kgs lighter than before. The engine is mated to a 6-speed hydraulically actuated clutch.
With all that performance, the Ducati Hypermotard 950 also gets a host of electronic goodies. It gets Bosch 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (6D IMU), which instantly detects the motorcycle roll, yaw and pitch angle in space. It also gets Bosch Cornering ABS with the Slide by Brake function (with setting 1), Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO. The Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO is available as an accessory on the Hypermotard 950.
For suspension duties, the Hypermotard 950 uses new Marzocchi forks which are fully adjustable with 170mm of wheel travel. At the rear, it uses a Sach monoshock, again fully adjustable. Braking duties are taken care by twin 320mm front discs with radially mounted 4-piston Brembo M4.32 calipers and a 245mm rear disc. It also gets a hydraulic-actuated slipper clutch for better gear shifting.
The Ducati Hypermotard 950 also features a new 4.3-inch TFT display from the Panigale V4. It gets the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which enables riders to connect the bike to a smartphone and manage key multimedia functions (incoming calls, text messaging, music) via switchgears, and display the relative information on the TFT instrument panel via Bluetooth. There are also three riding modes on offer – Sport, Touring and Urban.
The Ducati Hypermotard 950 comes absolutely loaded to the brim with all electronic aids and mechanical necessities. The prices are only marginally higher than the previous Hypermotard 939 which was priced at Rs 11.70 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Ducati has managed to get the pricing bang on and considering the level of equipment on offer from the previous Hypermotard, it really seems like a bargain.
