Duke 250 BS6 vs BS6.2 Drag Race

This post delves into the long drag race between KTM Duke 250 BS6.2 and Duke 250 BS6. Essentially, these two are the same bikes but belong to different eras. As the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms become valid, automobile companies have to update their products to comply with the requirements. Hence, the companies have to make the necessary tweaks to the engines. That often results in a slight impact on the performance. That is what makes this long drag race interesting. Let us check out who comes out on top.

KTM Duke 250 BS6.2 vs BS6 Long Drag Race

This video comes from Rough rider azam on YouTube. He has the two bikes side-by-side. For the first round, he takes the BS6 model while his companion has the BS6.2 model. On the count of three, both of them pull the throttle fully. In the initial phase, the BS6.2 model took the lead on the back of a sudden surge in power. However, the BS6 version overtook it after some time. Interestingly, the BS6.2 again took the lead and stayed ahead for the rest of the circuit. In order to maintain consistency of results and take into account the riding mannerisms of various riders, the duo swapped the bikes for round two. However, what remained the same was the outcome. The BS6.2 model emerges as the clear victor in this close race.

Specs Comparison

The BS6 KTM 250 used to come powered by a 248.8-cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine that generated a healthy 30 PS and 24 Nm of peak power and torque. It had a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. On the other hand, the KTM 250 BS6.2 variant also has the same engine but the power and torque outputs stand at 31 PS and 25 Nm. Hence, there is a clear increase in these figures, although it is quite marginal. Still, it looks like that is the difference that is evident, particularly at high speeds where the BS6 model just doesn’t stand a chance.

What We Think

YouTubers are adopting the prevalent trend of using drag races to assess and compare the performance of different motorcycles. However, it’s essential to recognize that solely relying on drag races for these assessments may not be the most prudent approach. The reason for concern stems from the fact that drag races can potentially inflict lasting damage on motorcycles, as most bikes are not built for prolonged high-speed, straight-line racing. Hence, we strongly discourage the attempt of drag races with your own motorcycles. In reality, the majority of riders refrain from pushing their bikes to such extreme limits, taking into account safety considerations and the potential risk of causing harm to themselves and their vehicles.
