Hero Splendor iSmart receives the BS-6 certification, making Hero the first two-wheeler manufacturer in India. The entire updated portfolio will be launched before time.

Hero Motocorp has received the Type Approval Certificate from International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) for the Splendor iSmart. Now, the bike is BS-6 compliant.

To get the approval, a manufacturer has to develop a prototype and getting it tested for ICAT. Once approved, the bike becomes BS-6 compliant. Now, Hero can commence the production of the BS-6 Splendor.

Hero Motocorp has confirmed that it will be well ready with its entire BS-6 portfolio, before April 1, 2020. Most of the models will receive the update, but certain models could be left out.

Talking about Splendor iSmart, it uses a 109cc air-cooled engine producing 9 BHP at 7500 RPM and 9 Nm at 5500 RPM. It comes mated to a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox.

The suspension is handled by telescopic forks at the front and 5-step adjustable shock absorbers at the back. 130mm drum brakes at both the ends with Integrated Braking System provide the stopping power.

Features onboard include a digital analogue spedometer, i3S technology, Split Grab Rails and a long comfortable seat. The i3S (idle start-stop system) helps in increasing the overall fuel economy.

The Splendor iSmart is priced at Rs 56,280 (ex-showroom Delhi). It goes against Bajaj Platina 110, Honda Dream Yuga, TVS Radeon and Yamaha Saluto.

Most of the models will receive the BS-6 compliant engines. However, some models like Xtreme, Achiever and Karizma are likely to be discontinued. As of now, all these three motorcycles have not been updated with ABS itself.
