Rolling Barrier Guardrails

In a bid to promote road safety, the administration has come up with India’s first Rolling Barrier Guardrails system in Himachal.

Himachal Pradesh becomes India’s first state to receive the Rolling Barrier Guardrails. Unfortunate incidents on the roads are a common sight and the administration decided to issue preventive measures. The MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport & Highways) has been actively involved in transforming the entire infrastructure and vehicular policies to ensure that no lives are lost on the roads. This unique pilot project of installing the Rolling Barrier Guardrails on hilly terrain marks yet another step in that direction. Read all the details related to this ambitious project.

Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways congratulated the state agencies involved in making this project a reality. This includes departments like NHAI, NHIDCL, TRW, HPPWD and other authorities. These barriers are designed in such a way that they absorb the maximum impact energy and translate it into rotational energy. By design, the rotational barriers turn the car back in the direction of driving and do not let it go out of the road. In hilly areas, most casualties occur not because of the impact itself, but due to the vehicle falling off a cliff. With these barriers, that would be largely avoided. This particular installation was done on the Nahan to Kumarhatti NH 907A which has large stretches of roads where drivers are often guilty of overspeeding.

ETI – Rolling Barrier Developer

ETI (Evolution in Traffic Innovation) is the company that is credited with the innovation and manufacturing of these guardrails. The South Korean company has designed these special barriers keeping in mind the terrains and conditions under which crashes happen. It is a pioneer in this technology and India looks to invest heavily in this to secure its highways. With the success of this project, the barrier installation would be expanded to other hilly areas too.

The government of India and MoRTH are working passionately towards making the Indian roads, as well as cars safer. They have passed legislation to direct the car manufacturers to equip modern cars with the highest safety kits. This would ensure that the number of deaths in road accidents would be reduced drastically.
