The spy images of the upcoming micro-SUV from Hyundai have been doing rounds for quite some time now. But this time around, Hyundai has released the first teaser of the AX1, which is slated for launch in Korea soon. The images show the headlamps and the taillamps of the Kwid and HBX rival and it is in line with the modern design cues from the Korean carmaker. Hyundai is making sure that it is present in every segment of the Indian automobile market and therefore, it wants to mark its presence in the micro-SUV segment as well. It is already India’s largest SUV manufacturer with mega-popular products like the Creta and Venue. The AX1 will be a suitable addition to the Hyundai SUV family in our market. Let us take a look at some of the spy images from the past along with the teaser images to know what to expect from the micro-SUV.

Hyundai AX1 – Expected Exteriors

From the earlier spy images, it was clear that the AX1 will have an upright stance with a tall boy-type body design. It may well be based on the smaller platform which underpins the Grand i10 Nios in India, but the overall dimensions and design language ensure that it represents clearly that it is an SUV after all. In the teaser images, the front headlamps are visible and are unique and modern. It looks like the headlamp cluster is located on the bumper of the micro-SUV as is the case with a lot of modern cars. However, there is a unique rounded LED DRLs and the main projector headlamps are housed inside them. This, surely, will be something to look forward to and will distinguish the Hyundai AX1 from all the other products in the market. The taillamps cluster is equally unique in that there is a distinct pattern in the tail lamps to lend it a very uncommon appearance.

Hyundai AX1 – Expected Interiors

There have been no concrete images to show the design or the features on the inside of the Hyundai AX1 yet. However, we do expect it to features some features which are present in the Santro and Grand i10 Nios. This might include a Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System with all the modern connected features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth Connectivity and Hyundai’s own Connected Car Tech Features, Digital or Semi-Digital Driver’s Instrument Cluster, Multi-Purpose Steering Wheel with Controls and a ton of other features. Features like Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD and Parking Sensors will be standard across the range.

Hyundai AX1 – Expected Engines, Prices and Rivals

Being a segment lower than the Venue, we expect the Hyundai AX to come with the same engine as the Santro. This is a 1.1-litre engine that produces 68hhp and 99Nm. It can come with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox option to keep the costs in check. There might also be the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine like in the Grand i10 Nios in the higher trims. We expect it to be priced around 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh range, ex-showroom. This makes it a direct competitor to the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Ignis, Renault Kwid and the upcoming Tata HBX.
