Hyundai introduced the first i10 in India back in 2007, and it is currently on sale in its 3rd generation avatar
Hyundai has surpassed the 3.3 million (33 lakh) sales milestone with its i10 brand. Note that the brand consists of three generation models – i10, Grand i10 and Grand i10 Nios. First launched in India back in 2007, the hatchback continues to be a preferred choice for a whole bunch of first-time buyers. This is an impressive testament to the car as it rivals the iconic Maruti Swift in India. To achieve such incredible sales with a rival like the Swift is no mean feat. Here are the details.
Hyundai Brand i10 Sells 33 Lakh Cars
As per the official press release, over 2 million (20 lakh) cars were sold in India and over 1.3 million (13 lakh) were exported to over 140 countries across the world. The most prominent ones include South Africa, Mexico, Chile and Peru. The ‘Made in India’ brand i10 carries over 91% localized components for the Indian and export models. With this, the Korean auto giant continues its dominance by being the largest exporter in India in the passenger vehicle category. This solidifies its commitment to the ‘Make in India, For the World’ initiative.
Over the years, the i10 has evolved significantly to be the ideal first car for an Indian family. In fact, in FY24-25, over 45% of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios customers were first-time buyers. It is available with petrol and CNG options along with manual and automatic transmissions. The safety and convenience amenities are great as well. The top ones are six airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD, 3-point seat belt and seatbelt reminder for all seats as standard, while providing latest features such as Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) – Highline, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), cruise control, wireless phone charger, 8-inch touchscreen display audio with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The prices range from Rs 5.98 lakh to Rs 8.62 lakh, ex-showroom.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL said, “We are proud of the landmark achievement of surpassing 3 million cumulative sales of HMIL’s brand i10. With over 2 million units sold in India and over 1.3 million units exported to global markets, brand i10 stands as a shining example of HMIL’s commitment to delivering world-class products. What makes this milestone even more special is the fact that the current generation of i10 has achieved up to 91.3% localization for the domestic market, while it is 91.4% for the export models. This success reflects the trust of our customers, the strength of Indian manufacturing, and HMIL’s dedication to creating smart mobility solutions for the world. With our upcoming plant in Maharashtra, we intend to expand exports to emerging as well as developed markets, increasing contribution of exports to overall sales and solidifying our commitment to Make in India, For the World.”
