Hyundai has sold over a total of 1,24,000 units of Creta for FY19 year. It is available in three engine options and two transmission choices are given.

The SUV segment in India is booming and the trend seems to be biased towards the diesel spec than the petrol engines. Similar is the case with the Hyundai Creta which sells like hotcakes. Hyundai Creta diesel outsells its petrol counterpart by 68%. The total units for the diesel spec were reported at 84,968 units while the petrol managed to sell a handful of 39,332 units. Engine, Transmission and Performance

Hyundai Creta is available in two diesel engine options – a 1.4-litre and a bigger 1.6L CRDi engine. Both the engines are turbocharged and come with 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The smaller 1.4-litre diesel turbocharged diesel engine pulls out 89 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque.

The higher 1.6-litre 4 cylinder diesel engine produces a total power of 126 bhp with a healthy torque of 260 Nm. This engine also gets a choice of 6-speed AT gearbox which the former engine is devoid off.

On the other hand, its petrol motor sees a 1.6-litre, 4 Cylinder VTVT engine which churns out 122 bhp and 151 Nm of torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission.

Hyundai Creta Petrol vs Diesel Fuel Efficiency

For the Indian market, the fuel economy is the priority while buying a car and Hyundai Creta manages to take bring out the best from both its diesel engines.

The ARAI certified fuel economy for the 1,4L brings 21.38 kmpl while the 1.6L gives a return fuel efficiency of 19.67 kmpl for the manual. The one powered by AT gearbox returns 17.01 kmpl.

Coming to the petrol spec, it returns a fuel economy of 15.28 kmpl for both manual and automatic transmission. There is no drop or increase for the automatic trim which is a good thing.

Price

Hyundai Creta diesel starts at a price tag of Rs 10 lakh and the top-end trim ranges to Rs 15.66 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The diesel engine not only provides you with a better fuel economy but gives an option to choose the 1.6-litre motor for more power. The diesel is suitable for those who can justify the cost of it over the monthly usage and with the coming BS-VI norms, the Creta will continue with their diesel engines.
