Hyundai Exter CNG Tank Capacity

The micro SUV segment is heating up with the arrival of the Hyundai Exter rivalling the segment leader, Tata Punch.

Hyundai launched the Exter recently which is the micro SUV with a petrol and bi-fuel CNG powertrain as we take a look at its CNG tank capacity. The ever-increasing rise in fuel prices is forcing potential car buyers to look for alternatives. Since electric cars are expensive, CNG seems to be the most feasible option, particularly if you live in major cities where the development of infrastructure around CNG stations is already there. Recognising this, the second largest car maker in the country is offering its latest micro SUV with a factory-fitted CNG tank.

It barely takes a couple of minutes before the tank is full. Taking a reading of the CNG pump, around 7 kg of gas was able to be accommodated into the tank. The vlogger also mentions that due to a glitch, around 1 kg was installed just minutes prior to recording the video. Additionally, there was around 1-2 kg of gas from the dealership. In all, the CNG capacity of Hyundai Exter is around 9-10 kg.

Specs

The Hyundai Exter provides customers with two powertrain options – a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.2-litre bi-fuel engine that combines both petrol and CNG. These engines generate peak power and torque outputs of 83 PS / 113.8 Nm and 69 PS / 95.2 Nm respectively. The Exter is offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. This micro SUV delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 19.2 km/l in petrol and an impressive 27.1 km/kg in CNG guise, ensuring economical usage. With a price range between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh, ex-showroom, Hyundai has made the Exter accessible to customers at affordable prices, while still providing remarkable mileage.

What We Think

In order to maintain its position of being the second largest carmaker in the country, Hyundai knows the mentality and the challenges faced by car buyers today. That is the reason why CNG cars are becoming so popular as people are unable to deal with the ever-increasing fuel prices. People looking for low running costs without compromising on the features often opt for CNG variants of popular cars. Also, Hyundai wants to dislodge the dominance of Tata Punch which is why the Exter comes with all guns blazing. We will have to wait to see just how big an impact it will create on sales charts.
