Hyundai Exter Spied Testing

The next product launch from the second-largest carmaker in India is slated for July 10 in the form of the Exter micro SUV.

The Hyundai Exter has been spotted undergoing road testing ahead of its launch on July 10, 2023. Exter is a micro SUV that is slated to rival the dominance established by Tata Punch. Ever since the discontinuation of the iconic Santro, Hyundai has been working on the Exter as the most affordable SUV in its Indian portfolio. SUVs are the flavour of the season and Hyundai is leveraging its extensive international portfolio to make sure that it offers some SUVs in every major segment of our market. Let us take a look at the details of the test mule.

Hyundai Exter to Launch on July 10

This post has been shared by vj_guideauto on Instagram. It captures a clear visual of the Exter test mule in Chennai. As seen from the footage, the exterior is heavily camouflaged. But we have already seen the first production-spec version that was rolled off the assembly lines a few days ago. That is why we are able to relate the exterior design even with this thick covering. At the front, we see the split LED setup with signature H-shaped LED DRLs on the bonnet and the main headlamps encapsulated in rectangular housing on the bonnet. Moreover, the roof rails are visible along with black alloy wheels.

Features & Specs

Being a Hyundai car, the cabin will boast a ton of modern tech and convenient features including a Smart Electric Sunroof and In-built Dashcam with Dual Camera, Hyundai’s BLUELINK connected car tech with over 60 functions and more. Additionally, the micro-SUV will also have 6 airbags as standard (driver, passenger, curtain and side) and 26 Safety features as an option on the entry-level trims (E and S). The powertrains will most likely be shared with the existing Grand i10 Nios hatchback. But the exact confirmation will come at the launch.

What We Think

Hyundai is the largest SUV maker in India with its massively popular Creta and Venue. Tucson is also a prominent product but doesn’t contribute all that much to the overall sales due to the niche segment it belongs to. In an environment where SUVs are what the customers want, an affordable micro SUV like the Exter is bound to do well. Despite being compact, it is not short on features and road presence. Also, we have seen that this segment is dominated by the Punch which shows the demand for an SUV. Exter will only offer more options to the buyers making the competition stiff.
