We compare the ARAI certified mileage of the recently launched Grand i10 Nios. It is available with a BS6 petrol engine and a BS4 oil burner.

Hyundai recently launched the much-awaited Grand i10 Nios and we have already compared the spec with its competition. Now is the time to compare the mileage of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios with Swift, Figo.

The Nios is available in both petrol and diesel engine with AMT gearbox on offer for both the engines. It is the only car after the Swift in this segment to come with a BS6 petrol engine.

It is the Maruti Suzuki Swift which comes out as the clear winner by delivering 21.21 kmpl for the petrol engine in both manual and automatic trim. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios mileage took a jump to 20.07 kmpl opposed from the 19.77 kmpl found in the older-gen. However, the automatic trim mileage comes out at 20.5 kmpl, which is a slight drop than its manual counterpart.

Ford Figo delivers the least amount of mileage at just limited to 20.4 kmpl for the manual trim. The automatic trim returns a fuel efficiency of 16.3 kmpl as it is also powered by a bigger 1.5-litre motor.

Diesel Engine Specification and Mileage

It is the first time that Hyundai has introduced a diesel automatic with the Grand i10 Nios. The engine deliveries an immense 26.2 kmpl of mileage for both petrol and diesel engines. Ford Figo engine is the most powerful of the lot but it lacks the efficiency of whoever is eyeing their choice on diesel cars.

Also on the news is that Hyundai will continue with their smaller capacity diesel engine and we can expect the BS6 oil burner before the emission norms take place which is April 2020. The prices for the same will be increased.

In other news, Hyundai will discontinue their 1.4L and 1.6L diesel engines in order to bring the new 1.5L diesel engine. The latter will port on Hyundai Creta and Verna. The 1.5L engine is the same from the Kia Seltos but can see different power outputs.

With this step, the company will be saving huge development costs by sourcing the engine from Kia and moreover, they will also benefit from lower taxes and duties as diesel engines with capacities of under 1500cc enjoy a lower tax structure in India.
