The MPV segment is growing at a swift pace in India, almost all auto giants have taken a note of this and have been trying to cater to the market for the same. MPVs like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova are two best examples of the popularity of MPVs in India. Hyundai too is trying its hand at the segment and it has been spied testing what seems to be a Hyundai i10 based MPV on Chennai roads near its production facility, the MPV was spotted testing by Overdrive.

Though the photo of the MPV is not very clear, Overdrive reports that the car closely resembles the Grand i10 hatchback and also gets design elements from the the ix20 hatchback sold in international markets. The car is curvy and carries Hyundai’s signature ‘fluidic’ design language, with large tail lights, regular doors (and not sliding doors) and a hexagonal grille at the front. The rumour is that it will be powered by the 1.4 litre diesel engine from Verna. There might be a petrol variant but Hyundai may concentrate mainly on diesel power. This car is expected within a price range of 6-8 lakhs.
The Hyundai i10 based MPV is going to share a lot of its parts with other cars like Grand i10 and i20 and is quite unlikely to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2014. There is also a chance that the car might not be India specific because the test mule didn’t seemed to be camouflaged. Hyundai could be testing the MPV for other markets.
