This morning (on 28th March 2012) we reported you with some of the spy pictures of new Hyundai i20 2012 spied at the dealer yard in India, and within a few hours, we get official update from Hyundai India about the launch of new Hyundai i20 2012 new model which will be called “Hyundai i20 iGen” which is the new generation of Hyundai i20 in India. We have called it from many names like Hyundai i20 2012, or Hyundai i20 Fluidic 2012 etc. The official debut of the new model of Hyundai i20 took place this month at the Geneva motor show. The new i20 has got cosmetic as well as performance changed and now starts at a price tag of Rs. 4.73 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.

As expected, the Hyundai i20 iGen 2012 has been launched with an upgraded petrol engine unit which is a VVTI equipped Kappa engine with more power and improved mileage. The petrol engine is a 1.2 Litre Kappa engine which now delivers about 83 BHP of power. The ARAI certified mileage of Hyundai i20 iGen 2012 is 18.5 KMPL for 1.2 Litre petrol and 21.9 KMPL for 1.4 Litre diesel engine.

The i-Gen i20 now comes with a more powerful and refined 1.2 Kappa petrol engine with Dual VTVT mechanism which delivers 84 PS of peak power.The advanced and hi-tech 1.4 U2 CRDi diesel comes with 6-speed manual transmission that delivers 90ps power and the best-in-class torque of 22.4 kg-m. The 1.4 Gamma automatic petrol delivers 100 PS power and 13.9 kg-m of torque.

A number of first- in-segment features are available in the i-Gen i20 like Rear Parking Camera with display in the cabin mirror, Electro Chromic Mirror which offers anti-glare vision during night time driving, Clean Air-Cluster ionizer for fresh air in the cabin, Auto Headlight Control Function (the lights turn on automatically when visibility drops), 6 Airbags, Rear Disc Brakes, Supervision Cluster and Rain Sensing Wipers.

Like all the other Hyundai cars in the Indian market, the new i-Gen i20 offers top priority to safety with features like: 6 Airbags, ABS, clutch lock system (to prevent accidental starts), smart pedal system (in the event of panic braking, the brake pedal overrides the accelerator), speed sensing auto door locking and impact sensing auto door unlocking (in the unfortunate event of a collision) and Reverse Parking Sensors.

According to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the i-Gen i20 petrol (1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT) delivers a mileage of 18.5 kmpl the diesel variant (1.4 CRDi) delivers a mileage of 21.9 kmpl and the automatic transmission variant (1.4 ltr petrol) delivers 15 kmpl which make it fuel-efficient and economical to drive.
