Hyundai i30

Hyundai i30 has been spied testing in India once again and this time by ARAI. Is Hyundai actually planning it for India or its here just for testing?

Hyundai i30 has been spotted testing a lot of times in India. All times in Tamil Nadu without any camouflage and sometimes, with emission kit at the back. However, this time, the crossover-hatch has been spotted doing ARAI testing.

As of now, there are no plans to launch the Hyundai i30 in India. However, testing by ARAI possibly suggests that Hyundai is seriously considering it. i30 will not have any direct rivals in India because no hatchback is priced in the 10-12 Lakh range.

The spotted test mule is the latest one that is available in South Korea. It has been spied with a 1.6 Litre diesel engine onboard. The engine comes in two tunes, producing 115 BHP and 136 BHP respectively. We are not sure if it is the same engine that earlier came on pre-facelift Verna and older Creta.

i30 is 4.3 metres long, 1.78 metres wide and gets a wheelbase of 2.56 metres. That’s nearly the size of Creta. This puts us again in doubt for why will Hyundai bring a hatchback to put in the segment of Creta. Does not make sense.

However, if and if, Hyundai i30 does make it to the Indian shores, it would be a perfect rival to the S-Cross. The latter is a crossover from Maruti Suzuki and for some, passes out as an SUV-type big hatchback. Both of them share similar dimensions and their price range is also identical.

In the global markets, i30 also gets 1.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.4-litre turbo petrol and a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. A couple of markets, there’s the i30 N as well which gets a 2.0 Litre turbo-petrol motor producing 275 PS and 353 Nm of peak torque.

While there are these reports, there are high chances that Hyundai might be testing some future engines. They could also be evaluating if the i30 will be a good thing for India. As of now, Hyundai has the new generation i20 launch pending once the lockdown gets over.
