In a fresh set of news, the next-gen Jeep Renegade will make it to the Indian shores in 2022. So, all the speculations and rumours of it launching in India next year stand false.

As we earlier reported, Jeep Renegade was set to launch in the Indian market by next year. In September, the current global version received a facelift, which was rumoured to launch in the Indian market.

However, Autocar reports that India will get the next-generation Jeep Renegade and not the current one. The launch was already delayed and now it stands further delayed up till 2022!

The reason has not been mentioned specifically. Before Renegade, Jeep India plans to introduce a sub-4-metre Maruti Vitara Brezza rival and a 7-seater Compass-based SUV.

However, we believe the primary reason is because of high costs of Renegade. In India, it will be pitted against the likes of Hyundai Creta. So, in order to match the pricing range of Rs 10 Lakhs to Rs 15 Lakhs, Renegade will need heavy localization.

If Renegade comes to the Indian market, it will be the most off-road focused SUV in its segment. Considering that the next-gen Renegade will continue with the Jeep DNA, it will come with large circular headlamps, traditional Jeep front grille and the well-placed bumpers to give it a dominance on the roads.

There are chances of Renegade offered with the engines borrowed from Compass. So, it might come with a 1.4 Litre petrol and 2.0 Litre Multijet diesel engine.

Petrol variant will come mated to a manual gearbox as well as an Automatic unit. Like Compass, the diesel variant does not get an option of an Automatic gearbox. Upcoming Compass Trailhawk will be the first in Compass lineup to feature a diesel-auto combination.

Instead of Jeep Renegade, the brand plans to introduce a compact SUV by 2020 and a 7-seater SUV by 2021. Further details of the launches are not known till now.

The compact SUV from Jeep will squarely go up against Maruti Vitara Brezza, followed by Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport upcoming Hyundai Carlino and Mahindra S201.

You can expect some off-roading features onboard as well, since it is the legendary Jeep.

The 7-seater SUV will be based on Jeep Compass. Reports say that the upcoming 3-row SUV might be the Grand Commander, which was launched last year in China.
