Kawasaki might launch modern retro motorcycles under the ‘Meguro’ trademark. The trademark has been filed for the international markets.

Kawasaki has reportedly trademarked ‘Meguro’ name for the International markets. We believe that it is either launch a series of modern retro bikes under a sub-brand or might be a whole new bike.

The brand has filed the trademark in the United States, Europe, Australia and the Philippines. Originally, the two-wheeler manufacturer has its roots in Japan.

Meguro was originally a sub-brand of Kawasaki. The latter bought Meguro in 1960 and launched many retro bikes and cafe racers like the W1. The newly launched W800 Cafe racer is actually inspired by Meguro bikes.

Meguro made racing bikes and also gave its motorcycles to police and the military. At a time, it was the second largest motorcycle manufactuer in Japan, with bikes ranging from 50cc to 500cc.

In its global lineup, Kawasaki already has Z900RS and W800 are retro motorcycles. So, there are possibilities that it might launch a new series of retro motorcycles under this sub-brand.

Reports also suggest that they might be developing a new mid-powered motorcycle, probably a sub-500cc motorcycle. It only has ADV and sportsbikes under 500cc.

In India, currently, the 250-500cc motorcycle segment is developing. A lot of premium motorcycle brands like Triumph and Ducati are partnering up with an Indian company to develop an entry-level motorcycle.

BMW Motorrad tied up with TVS for G 310 Twins and KTM paired up with Bajaj Auto to develop KTM bikes in India. Bajaj Auto is also launching the Swedish motorcycle manufacturer, Husqvarna is India.

We speculate Meguro to be inspired by Z400, which is a naked street bike. The engine and cycle parts can be shared by both of the motorcycles.

As of now, there are no further details about the bikes. No details of the bike or sub-brand coming to India have been mentioned.
