KTM Duke 200 reports better sales than Duke 125 for January 2019

KTM Duke 200 has reported a healthy sales figure of 1946 units for the month of January 2019. On the other hand, Duke 125 reports 1402 units for the same period.

In November last year, KTM launched the baby Duke 125 in India. In its first and second month, it showed quick positive results, being the best selling KTM bike for December 2018.

However, for the month of January 2019, KTM Duke 200 emerges the clear winner. It records 1946 units for the month, which is nearly 40% more than that of Duke 125. The baby Duke has reported sales of 1402 units.

For the past 2 months, the sales of Duke 200 were declining, as it went down to 700-800 units. However, the whole two-wheeler industry was going low in the market.

From our dealership sources, we get to know that many buyers still prefer the KTM Duke 200. Some buyers feel that 125cc performance-oriented engine is still not that powerful.

KTM Duke 200 gets a 199.5cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine, that is capable of producing 24 BHP and 19.2 Nm of peak torque. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Duke 125 gets a 125cc liquid-cooled SOHC engine that delivers 14.5 BHP and 12 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. There is a huge difference of 10 Horses and nearly 7 Nm of torque.

KTM Duke 125

While the top speed achievable on Duke 200 is 140 km/hr, that of Duke 125 is 110 km/hr. Media reports say that the 125cc Duke is comfortable cruising at 90 km/hr, while the 200cc Duke easily sits at triple speeds.

However, both the Dukes share the same chassis, suspension setup and features too. At the front, they use 43mm USD forks and 10-step adjustable monoshocks at the back.

Features onboard include a fully digital speedometer, LED DRLs with Halogen lamps, ABS, fuel injection, Lightweight Steel Trellis frame and split seats.

While the Duke 125 is priced at Rs 1.18 Lakhs, KTM Duke 200 goes for Rs 1.60 Lakhs (prices ex-showroom). There is a considerable price difference of 40,000.
