Maruti says that the BS-4 units of Baleno, WagonR, Alto and Ertiga are almost over at all dealerships and now most of them only have the BS-6 units.

Maruti Suzuki is the first mass-manufacturing automaker that started its growth in the BS-6 market. It launched the Alto 800 BS-6 literally a year ago the deadline kicked in. By now, it has most of its models already converted to BS-6.

Right now, we have the Baleno, Ertiga, XL6, S-Presso, Swift, Dzire and WagonR with BS-6 engines. Maruti confirms that most of the dealerships across the country have almost cleared up their BS-4 inventory, marching ahead to the BS-6 stocks.

For that, Maruti offered huge discounts on BS-4 cars including the Baleno and Ertiga starting just a couple of months ago. Most of the cars were bought in for more discounts ranging between Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 Lakh, depending on the model that you chose.

As of now, Maruti is left to upgrade the Ciaz, S-Cross, Ignis and Vitara Brezza with BS-6 petrol engines. Vitara Brezza and S-Cross come with the ageing 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine, which will soon be replaced by the 1.5 Litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS technology.

Contrary to its earlier statements, Maruti is now actually considering BS-6 compliant diesel engines in the near future. The company has stated that if the demand for their diesel cars arises, it might then start planning for it. So, we could very well see diesel engines on some cars.

Most likely, the Maruti Ciaz, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 would be the ones getting BS-6 diesel engines. Under the hood, you might get the recently developed 1.5 Litre DDiS 225 diesel engine, that now comes with the Ciaz. However, the S-Cross was spied testing with its earlier 1.6 Litre diesel engine, which is also speculated to make a comeback.
