For the month of December 2018, 4,734 units of the Maruti Ciaz were dispatched to the dealerships in comparison to 2,328 units for December 2017.

Though the automotive industry, is currently observing poor sales in general, some models, on an individual level have been performing quite well for their respective brands. One such such product, for the month of December 2018 was the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The mid-size sedan observed a 99% increase in its sales for the month of December 2018 in comparison to the same month last year.

For the month of December 2018, a total of 4,734 units of the Maruti Ciaz were dispatched to the dealerships. In contrast, during second-generationDecember 2017, a total of 2,328 units of this sedan were sent to Maruti Suzuki dealerships across India. The above data clearly states an increase of 99% in the sales of this vehicle.

A major reason for such a drastic increase in sales for the Ciaz is primarily because of Maruti Suzuki recently updating this vehicle with a mid-life facelift. With this update, the Maruti Ciaz received an all-new front fascia, minor feature updates and small mechanical changes over-all. In addition to this, the update also became the launch-pad for the brand’s brand-new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine in replacement of the 1.4-litre motor. Later this unit also made its debut, in the recently launched second generation iteration of the Ertiga MPV.

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki did not introduce its all-new 1.5-litre, in-house developed diesel engine with the updated Ciaz. As a result of which, this sedan still continues to be offered with the same old, Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre oil-burner. However, recent reports suggest that soon, Maruti Ciaz will get this much talked about 1.5-litre diesel engine on select variants in addition to the 1.3-litre mil.

With the introduction of a mid-life facelift, we saw Maruti Ciaz increase its portfolio of active as well as passive safety features. The sedan now comes as standard with dual airbags, ABS with EBD along with ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors as well as high speed alert as standard across the range. The Maruti Ciaz currently retails at a price of INR 8.19 lakh with the top-spec diesel variant costing INR 10.97 lakh to own. It competes with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris.

Maruti Suzuki has several new products lined-up for a launch in the Indian market. The most recent of these is going to be that of the next-gen WagonR which will be followed by the debut of the Swift RS and 2019 Baleno.
