Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

The first global EV from Maruti Suzuki has been gaining praise for its performance at the Bharat NCAP

The new Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has achieved a rather impressive 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP. With this, the EV joins the increasing list of 5-star safety-rated cars from Maruti Suzuki in recent times. The largest carmaker in the country finally unveiled its first global EV in India yesterday. The bookings are slated to commence soon, while the sales will begin in January 2026. Maruti Suzuki would aim to attract buyers on the back of the BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) model and an assured buyback program. For now, let us take a look at the details of the crash test report.

Maruti e Vitara Safety Rating at Bharat NCAP

The new Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has bagged a full 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and a 5-star rating in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories. Talking specifically, the EV secured 31.49 points out of 32 in AOP and 43 points out of 49 in COP. The standard equipment list includes 7 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt load-limiter, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No.8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder (AIS-145). All these factors contributed to the full 5-star rating in both sections.

Diving deep into the specifics of the COP department, the e Vitara scored 15.49 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16 points out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. Furthermore, the Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated ‘OK’. Apart from that, in the COP section, the EV bagged a Dynamic Score of 24 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12, and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 7 out of 13. The two child seat mounts (for an 18-month-old child and a 3-year-old child) are rearward facing.

Specs

The new Maruti e Vitara will be available with two battery pack options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Maruti claims a range of up to 543 km on a single charge with the latter. Buyers will get the option to choose between Delta, Zeta and Alpha trims. The base Delta variant gets the smaller battery, while the other two will carry the larger unit. Taking care of the charging operations, Maruti is collaborating with 13 charging point operators for a nationwide network and 2,000 chargers will be live at the launch. Finally, 1,500 service outlets are EV-ready for servicing and 500 out of these are prepared for EV support. Hence, Maruti is evidently working on the charging infrastructure too.
