We already know that Mercedes-Benz is ramping up expansion of the C-Class with additional derivatives which will create the largest family ever. Already available are the usual sedan and wagon derivatives these will be joined in the next couple of years by a coupe and a convertible. And going by the spy-shots we feel the first to come will be the coupe. The most revealing images to date of the first Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet came out last week. The prototype was spotted testing on public roads in Germany, remains heavily disguised by camouflage material and plastic cladding, though gives us our clearest look yet at the car’s headlights, door panels and rear bumper shape. So we present to you a list of ‘what to expects’ from the upcoming C-Class Cabriolet.

What we can say for sure is that from a design standpoint, the C-Class Cabriolet will feature frameless windows, two fewer doors than the current sedan model and the aforementioned folding soft-top rather than a lightweight retractable hardtop. When it hits the market, the C-Class Cabriolet will be one of the cheapest Mercedes-Benz cabriolets.

The four-seater is set to be fitted with Mercedes’ AirCap air-deflection and AirScarf heating systems seen on existing drop-top models, as well as a range of driver assist, safety, infotainment and connectivity systems offered in throughout the C-Class range.

Turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines familiar from the fixed-roof C-Class models will be offered in the cabriolet line-up, while reports suggest a high-performance C63 AMG variant powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.

The Mercedes Benz C-Class Cabriolet will go head-to-head with fellow premium mid-sizers from Germany:

  • The Audi A5
  • BMW 4 Series

In overseas markets, the C-Class Cabriolet is expected to become the cheapest open-air model in the brand’s line-up, entering the territory of the SLK and E-Class Cabriolet. The cheapest A5 Cabriolet costs $79,790 (Rs. 48 Lakh approx) and the 4 Series Convertible line-up starts at $89,300 (Rs. 54 Lakh approx) while the entry-level SLK200 costs $86,450 (Rs. 52 Lakh approx). Reports suggest the C-Class Cabriolet will be cheaper than the SLK. An official reveal will likely occur at next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled for September 2014.
