Mercedes-Benz India sure are celebrating their ‘Year Of Excellence’ in style. After launching the GL63 AMG in India in April 2014, the German luxury car maker is all set to launch the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG at the ‘AMG Performance centre’ here in Delhi (the first ever such facility in India) on 15th May.
This comes as no surprise though as Mr. Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, made it public knowledge earlier this year that they intend on strengthening the presence of the AMG series on Indian roads. This high performance SUV will be a faster variant of the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class though not in the same range as the GL63 AMG which still remains their most powerful SUV.
Price
Expected price range: Rs. 1-1.25 Crore
The international variant of the ML 63 AMG, comes with a 5.5 litre V8 twin turbo petrol motor giving us a commendable 525 BHP and 700 Nm torque in the ‘Regular Package’ , if you go in for the meaner ‘AMG Performance Package‘ you get an even better output of 557 BHP and 760 Nm torque.
When it comes to the 0-100 Kph sprint, the ‘Regular Package’ of the ML63 AMG takes a mere 4.8 seconds touching a top speed of 250 KMPH, while the ‘AMG Performance Package‘ betters that time by 0.1 second and the top speed touches a shattering 280 KMPH.
The V8 motor is mated to a 7G-Tronic AMG Speedshift transmission which sends power to all four wheels in the ratio of 40:60 for the front and rear set of wheels respectively. The International variant of the ML63 AMG gives a respectable 8.47 KMPL return on fuel.
So after consecutive launches from Mercedes-Benz is sure to put the market leaders Audi under some pressure and as far as the ML63 AMG is concerned it does not have a rival to chase after in terms of specs and pricing as yet, but as the folks down at Porsche add the final touches to what may prove to be a direct competitor in the form of the Macan Turbo slated to launch in June 2014.
In conclusion, all we can say is that this summer promises to be an exciting one if you are a prospective buyer of a high performance luxury SUV.
