MG Windsor EV Excite vs Exclusive vs Essence - Detailed Variant Comparison

MG Windsor EV is the newest electric car entrant into the Indian automobile market and it comes with a rather creative pricing strategy

In this post, I shall discuss a thorough variant comparison of the MG Windsor EV. It is available in three trims – Excite, Exclusive and Essence. With this EV, MG is expanding its electric portfolio in India. Now it has three electric cars on sale – ZS EV, Comet EV and Windsor EV. It is clear that MG is bullish on the mass adoption of EVs. India is still at a nascent stage of this electric revolution. However, the growth has been strong in the last couple of years. More carmakers are entering this space with new products. Hence, the buyers will be able to have a wide choice. For now, let us take a look at the details of all the variants on offer with the MG Windsor EV.

MG Windsor EV Variant Comparison – Price

The biggest factor that car buyers take into consideration before making a purchase decision is the price. India is a price-conscious market. People want to ensure that they buy something which is value for money. That is also the reason why the Indian market is one of the most competitive in the world. The prices of the MG Windsor EV range from Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh, ex-showroom. This is inclusive of the battery. If you wish to rent the battery as a part of the BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) program, the prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh with Rs 3.5 per km battery rental. In that manner, owners will need to make a monthly payment to MG depending on the usage. There are other plans on offer as well.

Apart from that, MG is also offering a 3-60 buyback program for which you must opt in the beginning. As a part of this package, you will get 60% of the value of the car back if you decide to sell the Windsor EV back to MG after 3 years. Not just that, under MG’s eHUB, buyers will get access to public charging for the first year free of cost. With an efficient Battery Management System (BMS), the performance of the battery is optimised even during extreme weather conditions. Buyers also get the MG e-Shield Package which offers 3 years of unlimited warranty, 3 years of RSA and 3 years of Labour-free maintenance services. Hence, the pricing strategy of the MG Windsor EV is quite flexible and innovative.

MG Windsor EV Variant Comparison – Specs

The best part about the MG Windsor EV range is that every trim comes with a similar powertrain. It is great that the buyers will not have to compromise on the performance regardless of which variant they choose to go for. The electric crossover boasts a 38 kWh battery pack with LFP chemistry and Prismatic Cell Structure. It powers the electric motor which generates a decent 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak power and torque. Moreover, the Chinese-owned British carmaker claims a range of 332 km on a single charge. That should take care of the requirements of most buyers, especially if they decide to use it for city commute. Another key aspect of the EV is the fast charging time of 55 minutes from 0 to 80% using a 50 kW charger.

My View

Choosing between the trims in this variant comparison of MG Windsor EV can be quite tricky. However, everything depends on your preferences and budget. If you love to get pampered by all the bells and whistles in any car and have a flexible budget, then opting for the Essence trim makes a lot of sense. You will get everything that MG has to offer. On the other hand, if you are someone who considers the ‘value-for-money’ approach at the top of your priority list, the mid Exclusive version makes perfect sense. Finally, if you are on a strict budget, going for the base Excite variant should be on your radar. In my opinion, the mid-level trim is the best value-for-money option. Still, you can choose the one that makes the most sense to you.
