MTT-Y2k

The MTT Y2K is a monster motorcycle that is powered by a Rolls Royce Allison 250 engine that’s used in helicopters and produces 420bhp in its latest generation.

When talking about superbikes, we mostly drool over liter-class motorcycles like the Ducati Panigale, the Kawasaki Ninjas, and the Yamaha R1s and think that 200bhp is already too much for a motorcycle on the road. Kawasaki then wowed us with the H2R in 2018 that produces a monster 326bhp. But did you know that about two decades ago, there was a motorcycle that was powered by a helicopter engine that produced 324bhp. It was called the Y2K.

The Y2K was built by Marine Turbine Technologies in the year 2000. The motorcycle was powered by a Rolls Royce Allison 250 gas-turbine turboshaft engine. Yes, an actual turbine engine used in helicopters is what propelled this monster motorcycle. In fact, the same engine also does duty on a bunch of Bell helicopters as well. Later generation of this motorcycle produced even more power and torque, as much as 420bhp and 678Nm of toruqe.

The latest generation of this motorcycle produces 420bhp and has a top speed of 445kmph.

This motorcycle is all about just making a statement. It has a top-speed of 445 km/h. That’s faster than all modern hypercars out there. Of course it will be. Modern hypercars don’t come fitted with helicopter engines after all. We are not claiming that this motorcycle will be faster on a track than any modern superbike but on a straight stretch of tarmac, it will disappear in the horizon in just no time at all.

Are you wondering what is the fuel used in this motorcycle with a turbine engine? Well, it turns out that the Allison turbine engine runs on kerosene or jet fuel but can also be configured to run on diesel. So yes, you will be able to fill up this monster motorcycle in a regular fuel station. Speaking of fuel, the Y2K has a 34-liter fuel tank capacity and trust us, it needs it. We can imagine it will be quite a gas-guzzler.

But its not just a motorcycle of the past as the Y2K is on sale even today. The current generation includes carbon-fibre bodywork and wheels, Pirelli tyres and fully-digital instrumentation. If you think that 420bhp is too much for you to balance on two wheels, you can even go for a Y2K trike. Check that out on google. One of the renowned personalities in the motoring world to own a Y2K is Jay Leno.
