We’ve always maintained that the TVS Apacheย range comprises of one of the most performance-oriented products in their segments. Currently, the Apache series is available in three models – RTR 160, RTR 180 and RTR 200. Soon, TVS Motor Company, the Hosur-based homegrown bike manufacturer, will launch its most powerful bike yet – the TVS Apache RR 310S. However, its new model onslaught won’t end here. Regulars here would know we’ve already reported in detail about the upcoming new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160. Now, if a new RTR 160 is in the pipeline, it’s safe to assume that the launch of the new RTR 180 is also in the offing. The new bike is likely to launch at the Auto Expo 2018.ย Here, in this post, we’ve put together all the available details on the new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180.

While the new RTR 180 is likely to launch alongside the 2018 RTR 160, it will also share in plenty with the Apache RTR 200 4V. Spy images reveal that the upcoming new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 and RTR 160 share the taillamp and digital speedo console with the RTR 200 4V. Also, the upcoming Apache models will boast a monoshcok rear suspension. The parts sharing won’t end here. The 2018 Apache RTR 180 will even share bits like fuel tank and exhaust end-can. Unlike the 2018 RTR 160, the new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 will have a split-seat arrangement. It will also have an ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System).

While most the specifications sheet is likely to see many changes, the engine will be carried over from the current RTR 180. That said, the 177cc, single-cylinder engine will see some tweaks for additional performance and higher fuel mileage. Currently, this engine outputsย 17.30 BHP and 15.50 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The biggest change in the specifications table will be the introduction of rear monoshock suspension.

New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 Launch Date

Launch Date (expected) February 2018

The manufacturer has already been caught testing the 2018 Apache RTR 160. The updated RTR 160 could be launched in early 2018, probably at the Auto Expo 2018. TVS is likely to launch the new Apache 180 alongside the new Apache 160. So far, there has been no official word from the manufacturer. New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 Specifications

Engine Displacement 177 cc, Single-cylinder, Carbureted
Maximum Power 17.30 BHP
Maximum Torque 15.50 Nm
No. of Cylinders 1
No. of Gears 5

It’s almost for sure that the new model Apache RTR 180 will get the same 177cc, single-cylinder motor that powers the current bike. However, it’s also very likely that the engine will get some tweaks for higher performance and fuel mileage. Currently, this rev-happy engine outputs a max. power ofย 17.30 BHP at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 15.50 Nm at 6,500rpm. The bike comes with a five-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a chain drive.

The biggest change in the specifications will come from the updated suspension. At the rear, the new Apache RTR 180 2018 model will get a monoshock instead of the currentย Monotube Inverted Gas-filled (MIG) twin shock absorbers. Currently, only the Apache RTR 200 is available with a monoshock. With the advent of the 2018 models of RTR 160 and RTR 180, however, all the three models will have a monoshock arrangement. Brakes are expected to continue unchanged. Currently, the Apache 180 comes with a 270mm front petal-disc and a 200mm rear petal-disc setup. ABS will be available, at least as an option.

New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 Mileage

City 30 KMPL
Highway 40 KMPL
Combined 35 KMPL

While the new bike will get the same engine as the current model, the motor will see some re-tuning for slightly higher fuel mileage. Currently the Apache RTR 180 can deliver upto 40 KMPL on the highway. In crowded city riding, it offers around 30 KMPL. It may be noted here that bikes in the Apache series have always had rev-happy engines. Thanks to such eager motors, one tends to keep the engine on the boil to extract maximum performance. In such conditions, fuel mileage takes a hit. Yet, all the bikes in this series offer respectable fuel efficiency for the power they have on offer.

New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 Design

Akin to the current model, the new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 180 will be built around a double cradle synchro chassis. While the new bike will look fresh and modern, it will take many design cues from the RTR 200 4V. The new bike will share several body panels with the bigger model. The most prominent of these will include a fuel tank and the exhaust end-can. It’s not for sure yet but the new Apache 180 will have a split-seats arrangement. If the spy images of the new Apache 160 are anything to go by, even the updated 180 will have a bolder, more muscular attire. The new bike will get a fully-digital speedo console, which will, again, come from the RTR 200 4V. Bits like sporty decals and pin-stripped wheels should make the bike look a touch more attractive.
