Honda has sent us invites for March and we expect it to be the 2020 City sedan. New City gets a complete makeover with new engines and refreshed styling.

Honda has launched the new generation City in Thailand, which is the fourth-generation model. The updated sedan looks completely different from the India-spec outgoing version, sporting new features and new engines as well.

The 2020 Honda City is coming to India, but not at the Auto Expo. The new sedan will be launched in March, going by Honda’s invite for a new launch. The India-spec City will look the same as Thai-spec but will get some differences related to features and engines.

First of all, the 2020 Honda City will sport new engines, which will be BS6 compliant. The current 1.5 Litre i-DTEC diesel engine will continue. The existing 1.5 Litre i-VTEC petrol engine will finally get a mild-hybrid system with the small electric motor aiding the auto-start stop system and initial acceleration.

2020 Honda City will also get a new 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor is capable of producing 122 BHP and 170 Nm of peak torque. Most likely, the engine will come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, although, in Thai-spec it comes with a CVT gearbox.

In Thailand, the City is sold in two trims – Standard and RS variant. The latter being just for the turbo-petrol variant. Differences between both the trims are related to styling. The RS variant gets different colour options, sportier alloy wheels and body-kit type bumpers.

New features will include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a new and bigger touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a new instrument console, LED projector headlamps, Hill Start Assist and Electric Driver Seat Adjustment.

As of now, Honda has updated the current City with a BS6 petrol engine. Most likely, the BS6 diesel engine will directly debut on the new Honda City. Expect the prices to increase by atleast Rs 20,000 for petrol variants and Rs 40,000 – 50,000 for the diesel variants.
