The first electric SUV from the Indo-Japanese carmaker has finally arrived in India
The new Maruti e Vitara has finally been revealed for the Indian market. Remember, it has already been launched in some international markets for a while now. However, the Indian launch eluded us for months. Still, we were able to experience the test mules on our roads. e Vitara holds a special place in the legacy of Suzuki for being the first EV ever. Maruti Suzuki is certainly late to the EV party. Nevertheless, it has come all guns blazing. The bookings will begin soon, and the deliveries will start from January 2026. Let us take a look at what the electric Vitara embodies.
New Maruti e Vitara – Specs
The Maruti e Vitara is based on the new HEARTECT-e platform and is available with two battery pack alternatives – 49 kWh or 61 kWh. Now, the exact specifications have not been announced, but we can get an idea of what to expect based on the international model. The powertrain unit comprises of an eAxle (3-in-1 unit including inverter, motor and transmission). Arguably, the biggest attraction of this configuration is the choice of 2WD and 4WD setups. The power and torque figures are 142 hp / 189 Nm, 172 hp / 189 Nm and 181 hp / 300 Nm (AWD), respectively, depending on the variants. A key aspect for our roads is a healthy 180 mm of ground clearance and a claimed range of around 543 km on a single charge (w/ the larger battery pack).
