Maruti Victoris vs Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – Specs

Interestingly, the two SUVs share the powertrain and transmission alternatives. Essentially, the Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder carry the same engines and transmissions. They come with three engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder strong-hybrid petrol, and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder Bi-fuel (petrol + CNG). These deliver 103 PS / 139 Nm, 116 PS / 141 Nm, and 87 PS / 121 Nm of peak output, respectively. The mild-hybrid version gets a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. With the CNG, there is only a 5-speed manual unit, while the strong hybrid is paired with an e-CVT gearbox. For light off-road use, the mild-hybrid can also be equipped with the ALLGRIP SELECT AWD system. The Victoris offers terrain settings like Snow, Sport, Lock, and Auto.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder also uses the same engine and gearbox setup, so repeating that isn’t needed. What sets them apart are the mileage figures. Maruti cars are known for segment-best fuel efficiency, and the Victoris continues this trend. It delivers 21.18 km/l (MT), 21.06 km/l (AT), 19.07 km/l (AWD), 27.02 km/kg (CNG), and 28.65 km/l (Strong Hybrid). These numbers are impressive. In comparison, the Hyryder (based on the Grand Vitara) offers 21.11 km/l (MT), 20.58 km/l (AT), 19.20 km/l (AWD), 26.6 km/kg (CNG), and 27.97 km/l (Strong Hybrid). Thus, the Victoris manages a slight edge here.

Design and Dimensions Comparison

Finally, let us talk about the design theme of these SUVs. While they share the same base, each carries its own unique styling. The new Maruti Victoris comes with a fresh look to attract today’s buyers. At the front, it sports sleek LED DRLs linked by a chrome strip with the Suzuki badge at the centre. The LED headlights are placed below the DRLs, and the bottom features a tough bumper with a skid plate. From the sides, the standout elements are squared wheel arches with black cladding and stylish dual-tone alloys. The look is further enhanced by roof rails, blacked-out pillars, and a sharp rear section. At the back, it features connected LED tail lamps, a shark fin antenna, a roof spoiler, and a sporty bumper with a skid plate. Overall, the SUV offers a bold road presence, something Indian buyers truly admire.

In contrast, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder follows its own design language. On the bonnet edge, it gets split LED DRLs, while the main LED headlights are positioned on the bumper corners. At the centre, there is a wide grille with a chrome Toyota emblem and a muscular skid plate for a rugged stance. From the side, the styling is highlighted by modern alloy wheels, roof rails, and body cladding for protection. At the rear, it houses connected LED tail lamps with a glossy strip running across the width. Overall, the SUV appears as one of the most stylish and premium offerings from Toyota in India.

My View

The prices of the new Maruti Victoris are not out yet. Hence, we won’t be able to come to a reasonable conclusion just yet. Still, it is possible that the Victoris might be slightly more affordable than the Hyryder. Also, since it is the new model, there are many advantages like a new cabin, new-age features, a unique design, etc. Also, the powertrain and transmission options remain identical on both SUVs. Hence, at the end of the day, it will be a matter of preference and budget. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these compelling propositions.
