The next-generation Maruti Wagon R will use the same engine and transmission options. Prices are expected to increase slightly due better features and safety kit.

The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is all set to launch in India on the 23rd of January 2019. This iteration of this compact hatchback is going to be its third generation full-model update. And with this, we are expecting it to come with a complete overhaul and an all-new persona.

The new Maruti Wagon R 2019 is going to share its engine specifications with the current generation iteration. This means that it will continue to come with the same 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The power output of this gasoline motor stands at 63 BHP along with 110 Nm of peak torque. Just as before, the Wagon R will offer a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. In addition to this, it will also get an option of a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Considering the current competition, the new Wagon R will get a decent upgrade in terms of its feature list. Features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, automatic climate control, power windows, electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs will be seen on the top-spec variants.

Apart from introducing new features, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is also going to come with several safety features as standard. Dual air-bags, ABS with EBD along with rear parking sensors are likely to make the cut. Top-spec variants are going to feature rear parking camera with guidelines, rear defogger along ISOFIX child seat anchorage points.

Recently, a completely undisguised test-mule of the new Wagon R was seen near the automaker’s manufacturing facility in Haryana. Curtsey that, we can clearly see that the new WagonR continues to maintain its tall boy-stance. However, its contours have been rounded off in order to give the car a premium outlook. From what can be seen from the hazy spy shot, we can make out that the 2019 Maruti Wagon R gets large and angular tail-lamps. While the headlamps look oddly similar to its current generation iteration.

One of the other major talking point about the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 generation update is its platform. There have been some reports stating that Maruti will use its all-new HEARTECT platform by Suzuki. This will help the company reduce the car’s overall weight resulting in better fuel-economy in comparison to the older model.

However, there are contradictory rumors as well which state that the company will not use the HEARTECT platform in order to keep the prices in check. Which one out of these is true? Stay tuned to Car Blog India for more updates!
