New Mercedes V-Class vs Toyota Vellfire – Specs Comparison
The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class is available with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel mill. These generate a decent 228 hp + 20 hp (mild hybrid boost) and 233 hp of maximum power and torque, respectively. Both these engines share the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Hence, buyers will get to choose from two potent powertrain alternatives. On the other hand, the Toyota Vellfire draws power from a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder DOHC self-charging strong hybrid engine, which produces a maximum power output of 193 PS and a maximum torque of 240 Nm. This mill pairs with a CVT automatic transmission for an impressive fuel efficiency of 19.28 km/l. Hence, the Mercedes V-Class is certainly the more powerful of the two, albeit it is also the larger one.

In my experience covering the Indian luxury car space, the V-Class and Vellfire appeal to very different kinds of premium buyers. The Vellfire has clearly found favour among Indian celebrities due to its lounge-like rear seat comfort and hybrid efficiency. Meanwhile, the V-Class brings typical Mercedes engineering, stronger performance and a more understated luxury appeal. Ultimately, the choice in this niche segment will come down to whether buyers prioritise chauffeur-driven comfort or brand-led driving sophistication.
