The mid-size SUV won’t be available with a strong hybrid, unlike its badge-engineered counterpart, the Renault Duster
The new Nissan Tekton has finally been launched in India. The new C-SUV is a badge-engineered avatar of the recently launched Renault Duster. That is something we have seen with Nissan and Renault cars for years. However, in this case, the design of the two sets them apart completely. Also, there is no strong hybrid variant with the Tekton like we will see with the Duster. The Tekton marks Nissan’s second product in 2026, which indicates its footprint expansion in our market. Note that bookings for the mid-size SUV are underway. For now, let us take a look at the details of the new Nissan Tekton.

Nissan Tekton – Specs
The Nissan Tekton shares the powertrain and transmission options with the Renault Duster, without the strong hybrid mill. This means that it comes with two turbo petrol engines – a 1.0-litre (T160) and a 1.3-litre (T280). These generate a familiar 100 PS / 166 Nm and 163 PS / 280 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The former is available with a sole 6-speed manual transmission, while the latter can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Hence, the buyers get to choose according to their needs. Also, the 212 mm ground clearance will be extremely useful on our roads.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Nissan Patrol, the all-new Nissan Tekton carries forward the brand’s strong SUV legacy with a bold and distinctive design. It features a muscular stance, clean proportions and a commanding road presence that instantly grabs attention. Design highlights include a Patrol-inspired chrome grille, sculpted body lines, flush roof rails, contrast skid plates and signature C-shaped LED headlamps. At the rear, connected C-shaped LED tail lamps add to the modern appeal, while unique styling elements further reinforce its adventurous character. Overall, the Tekton blends rugged SUV credentials with premium styling to create a strong visual impact.

The launch of the Nissan Tekton is an important step in Nissan’s renewed India strategy. While it shares its underpinnings with the Renault Duster, Nissan has done enough on the design front to give the Tekton a distinct identity of its own. I do feel the absence of the strong hybrid option could be a missed opportunity, especially at a time when fuel efficiency is becoming a major buying factor for SUV customers. That said, with aggressive pricing, a feature-packed cabin and a choice of turbo-petrol powertrains, the Tekton has all the ingredients to challenge established rivals in the fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment.
