Skoda has revealed the Kushaq facelift with new styling, some added features and a new automatic transmission
In this post, I am comparing the new Skoda Kushaq facelift and Tata Sierra on the basis of specs, features, design, etc. The new Kushaq is the latest entrant into the mighty competitive mid-size SUV space. In its new avatar, the SUV boasts a refreshed styling, new features and a new first-in-segment gearbox. With these, the Czech auto giant wants to pull in new buyers. On the other hand, Tata Sierra is also a prominent new model in this category. It leverages the iconic Sierra moniker from the 1990s and 2000s with new-age aesthetics. For now, let us take a look at the details of this comparison.
New Skoda Kushaq vs Tata Sierra – Specs Comparison
The new Skoda Kushaq continues with the two familiar powertrains – a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol. These generate a decent 115 PS / 178 Nm and 150 PS / 250 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This time around, Skoda introduced a new segment-first 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission with both these mills. Additionally, the large turbo petrol engine can also be paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, just like the outgoing model. Therefore, all sorts of buyers can pick the right option according to their needs and usage.
On the other hand, the Tata Sierra is expected to offer multiple engine and transmission choices. This lineup includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit, generating 106 PS / 145 Nm, 160 PS / 255 Nm and 118 PS / 280 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Buyers will be able to choose between a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DCA gearbox. Once again, this range is designed to cater to a wide variety of buyer requirements.

Design Comparison
Finally, let us analyze the two mid-size SUVs based on the exterior styling. The Skoda Kushaq facelift introduces visible updates to its exterior styling, giving it a fresher and more upmarket feel. The front section now sports a wider illuminated grille, paired with sleek LED headlamps and LED DRLs placed at the outer edges. A sportier, more chiselled bumper with an integrated skid plate improves its road presence, while the bonnet continues to feature its familiar creases. Along the sides, the SUV comes with sturdy roof rails, newly styled 17-inch alloy wheels, protective body cladding, chrome window surrounds and clearly defined wheel arches. At the rear, the design is completed by LED tail-lamps connected by a light bar with illuminated Skoda lettering, a chrome strip running across the tailgate, sequential indicators, and a robust bumper finished with silver cladding at the bottom.
On the other hand, the new Tata Sierra adopts a clean and upright SUV posture with well-balanced proportions. It features a wide front fascia with LED DRLs stretching across the width and headlamps positioned lower on the bumper. The side profile is marked by smooth body panels, squared-off wheel arches, and large alloy wheels that reinforce its SUV character. Tata has retained the iconic wraparound rear glass area, maintaining a clear link to the original Sierra. At the rear, it gets a connected LED tail-lamp arrangement and a simple, upright tailgate. Overall, the design feels modern, functional, and faithful to the Sierra legacy.
My View
Now, choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite tricky. Nevertheless, I shall update this section once the prices of the new Kushaq are announced.
