The next-generation Mahindra Scorpio is likely to make its debut in India sometime during the year 2020, could sport a higher price tag.

Soon we are going to see a complete revamp of the entire product portfolio of Mahindra automotive in the Indian market. The homegrown automaker has recently launched the XUV 300, its second offering in the sub-4-meter SUV segment, the Marazzo MPV and the Alturas G4 premium SUV in our country. With these segments done and dusted, Mahindra is now looking to upgrade the rest of its pack which includes cars like the Thar, Scorpio and the XUV 500.

According to a recent report, Mahindra is currently working on an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine. This oil-burner is soon going to replace the automaker’s 2.2-litre mHawk engine which currently does its duty on the Scorpio and the XUV 500. Not only this, but this 2.0-litre engine is also going to be plonked under the hood of the Thar.

This 2.0-litre diesel engine is being developed to offer three states of tune. For the Mahindra Thar, this engine will be tuned to produce 140 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque. For the Mahindra Scorpio, this engine will churn out 160 BHP while for the XUV 500, this engine will produce close to 185 BHP of power. Transmission options are going to vary from model to model.

The next-generation Mahindra Thar is currently being tested on Indian roads. Going by the images of the test mule, we can clearly see that the new iteration of this 4×4 is going to be significantly bigger in comparison to the outgoing model. It will continue to be based on a ladder frame chassis and provide hardcore off-road capabilities.

Moving on to the Next-generation Mahindra Scorpio, this compact urban SUV will continue to be based on a ladder frame chassis. In addition to a manual gearbox, the new iteration of this vehicle will also offer an automatic gearbox. In fact, after the Marazzo, the 202 Mahindra Scorpio will be the second product from the homegrown automaker which is going to be developed at its North American Technical Centre.

So far there have been no official details regarding the next-generation Mahindra XUV 500. Recently, Mahindra owned South-Korean automobile manufacturer, SsangYong revealed its Korando SUV. Speculations are high stating that just like the Mahindra XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli, similarly, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 could be based on the new Korando.
