Hyundai Creta is the king of this compact SUV segment. It will compete with Nissan Kicks. Both the SUVs are fully loaded with premium features, because that’s what Creta is famous for.

For starters, the Kicks is based on the same underpinnings and use the same mechanical components as its sibling, the Nissan Terrano. This is going to help Nissan in keeping the prices of this all-new offering in check and highly competitive. Furthermore, the Kicks will be offered in both petrol as well as diesel engine guises. Nissan is going to launch the Kicks SUV in India sometime during the month of January 2019. As a result of this, the official prices of this upcoming compact SUV are not out yet. However, in order to give a genuine competition to its rivals, Nissan has to prices the Kicks very aggressively. Hence, we are expecting this SUV to fall in-between the price range of INR 10 lakh to INR 15 lakh.

The Hyundai Creta, currently standing as the segment benchmark when it comes to features and quality on offer is offered at a starting price of INR 9.99 lakh. The top-of-the-line trim of this compact SUV retails at INR 15.07 lakh. However, the prices are likely to go up during the month of Jnaury with Hyundai recently announcing a price hike.

The Nissan Kicks will go on sale in both petrol as well as diesel engine options when it will launches in Inda next month. The engine line-up of this compact SUV is the same as that of the Nissan Terrano.

Hence, the petrol derivative of the Kicks is going to come with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine. This unit is capable of churning out 106 BHP of power along with 142 Nm of peak torque. As standard, this engine will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The diesel derivative of the Nissan Kicks is going to launch in India with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This oi-burner is capable of churning out 108 BHP of power along with 245 Nm of peak torque. This engine is going to come as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox. An automatic gearbox will join the portfolio at a later stage.

In contrast, the Hyundai Creta is currently available in India with a choice of three different power-train option. The petrol derivative comes with a 1.6-litre unit capable of churning out 123 BHP along with 152 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with the option of a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic unit.

The diesel derivatives come with a choice of two different engine options. There is a 1.4-litre unit capable of churning out 90 BHP of power along with 219 Nm of peak torque. This engine is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

This compact SUV also comes with a 1.6-litre diesel engine. This unit is capable of churning out 128 BHP along with 259 Nm of peak torque. This bigger capacity motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. At the same time, there is a 6-speed AMT unit also on offer.

The petrol derivative of the Nissan Kicks is estimated to provide a mileage figure of around 10 km/l. On the other hand, the diesel derivative is capable of giving a real-world mileage figure of around 14 km/l.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine in the Hyundai Creta is capable of promising an average mileage figure of 12-13 km/l. The 1.4-litre diesel engine gives out a mileage figure of 19-20 km/l. The 1.6-litre diesel engine, in real-world condition, will provide a mileage figure of 17-18 km/l.
