Peugeot is all set to make a comeback into Indian automobile market. In an important milestone, Peugeot breaks ground at its allocated land at Sanand to built its plant in the state of Gujarat India. The Peugeot facility is located at a mere 40 Km from capital Ahmedabad. The total investment in the Peugeot Sanand facility will be Rs. 6000 crores and it will become operational in mid of 2014. The facility is spread over 600 acres and will have an initial capacity 1.7 lakhs car units per year which will be doubled to 3.4 lakh units by the year 2016.

The Peugeot plant at Gujarat will be used for not only for Peugeot car assembly, but also for its engine and gearbox assembly. Peugeot will launch Peugeot 508 and Peugeot 207 or Peugeot 208 to start with its car portfolio in India. Peugeot will gradually increase its R&D operations in India and will also start exports to Asia pacific and Australia from India in the longer run. Peugeot is also working out the strategies to increase the localization in India to become more competitive in the years to come with the help of local suppliers from India and Gujarat state.
