Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. introduced the India public to the AMT with the launch of the Celerio. This technology subsequently found its way into cars from other manufacturers including Tata, Renault, and Mahindra. As they belong to separate segments, there will be a significant price gap between the prices of the Kwid AMT and Celerio AMT. However, with both cars being driven by a 1.0 L petrol and top-end variants of the Kwid packing decent features, it could turn out to be a more sensible alternative to the Celerio.

As we mentioned earlier, both cars are powered by a 1.0 L petrol engine. Specifications of the one powering the Kwid are not known yet. We expect them to be similar to that of the Celerio’s, which is the same engine that also powers the Alto K10. Kwid AMT will be lighter and hence, could be more fuel efficient than the Celerio AMT.

Don’t be surprised if the Kwid manages to trump the Celerio in terms of fuel mileage. The one with the 800 cc motor delivers 25.17 kpl overall. Maruti is claiming a mileage of 23.1 kpl for the Celerio AMT. AMT’s don’t tend to have a major negative impact on fuel mileage.

The features mentioned here are based on the current variants of the Kwid. This being a 1.0 L version could get additional features such as airbags, ABS, four power windows, etc. Kwid gets a touchscreen infotainment system, something the Celerio doesn’t.

Renault Kwid’s design seems to be a big hit with the Indian car buying lot. The crossover-like exterior has worked very well for the Kwid. It certainly is a good looking car, no doubt. On the other hand, Maruti has clearly played it very safe with the exteriors of the Celerio. The design won’t turn as many heads as the Kwid’s will, but it will appeal to a wider range of audience.
On the inside, Kwid gets a centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system and an all black colour scheme. It also gets a digital speedo. The Celerio comes with a well-laid-out dashboard finished in black and beige. Since it is a more expensive offering, quality levels are also better.

The Renault Kwid and the Maruti Celerio are already very popular products. The addition of a bigger engine and automatic variants to the Kwid’s lineup will only help enhance its appeal. We will have to wait for the price and performance of the Kwid AMT in order to pass judgement on the Renault Kwid AMT vs Maruti Celerio AMT battle.
- Price – Renault Kwid will definitely be cheaper than the Maruti Celerio AMT. But it is smaller and could be less feature rich as well.
- Specifications – Both cars come with a 1.0 L petrol engine and 5-speed AMT combination.
- Features – Celerio belongs to a different segment and hence, will be more feature laden. However, we’re not sure exactly what features will find their way into the Kwid yet.
- Design – Both these cars are very popular products and this indicates that people haven’t taken issue with their looks. Kwid AMT will look exactly the same as the current 800 cc model.
