The electric motorcycle segment in India is gaining prominence, especially when established two-wheeler manufacturers start operating in this space
The test mule of the first-ever electric motorcycle from Royal Enfield, the Flying Flea C6, was seen road testing in the outskirts of Chennai. We know that the EV was first showcased at the EICMA 2024 with the design inspired by the vintage World War 2 era Flying Flea. Also, we will even see the Flying Flea S6 alongside the C6 once the Indian two-wheeler giant commences selling electric bikes in our market. For now, let us delve into the specifics of this case.
Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 Electric Spotted Testing
This post stems from dir_deepak_srinivasan on Instagram. The visuals capture a man driving on a highway near Chennai who spotted the test mule of the first electric bike from Royal Enfield. Even though the motorcycle is heavily camouflaged, I can recognize the resemblance to the concept version. This includes bits like the circular headlamp, circular rear-view mirrors, the ‘L’ platform, the girder fork, round taillamp, styling alloy wheels and a short rear overhang. With the rider, the bike really looks quite compact.
Now, apart from the visuals, Royal Enfield will equip it with all the latest tech and convenience amenities to pamper the riders. These might include things like Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call alerts, music, disc brakes, dual-channel ABS, customized ride modes, and much more. We will get to experience more details as the launch nears.
My View
The Indian two-wheeler industry is among the largest in the world. It keeps growing rapidly, especially with new models from Royal Enfield in the last couple of years. The Chennai-based two-wheeler giant has grown exponentially within a span of a few years. With electrification as its next agenda, it will be interesting to see how well the customers embrace the new models.

As someone who has tracked Royal Enfield’s evolution closely, I see the Flying Flea C6 as a pivotal product, not just for the brand, but for the premium EV motorcycle space in India. RE has built immense equity with its retro charm, and carrying that ethos into an electric platform could finally give this segment the breakthrough it has been waiting for. The real test, however, will be balancing heritage with the performance and range expectations of today’s buyers. I’ll be watching this development very closely.
