The latest breed of MQB A0 IN-based vehicles has turned the fortunes of the German and Czech carmaker around in our market
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has achieved an impressive milestone by producing its 5,00,000th car in our country. That is a monumental accomplishment for the group. This is particularly special since until a few years ago, the brand was considered challenging due to limited products and high maintenance costs. Thankfully, on the back of the heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform, it has spawned around half a dozen new cars. Due to parts availability and local manufacturing, the ownership and service costs have gone down significantly. Hence, people have flocked to buy these cars.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Rolls Out 5,00,000th Car in India
Skoda Auto has reached an important milestone in India by producing 500,000 cars in its local manufacturing facilities. This reflects the company’s trust in Indian skills and its focus on localization, along with maintaining global standards of quality and safety. Skoda began its India journey in 2001 by producing the Octavia at its Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant, formerly known as Aurangabad. Over the years, the brand has expanded its product range. It has introduced popular models such as the Octavia, Laura, Superb, Kodiaq, Kushaq, Slavia, and the new sub-4-metre SUV, Kylaq. These cars have been designed to match the changing preferences of Indian customers.
Skoda’s manufacturing in India is not limited to local needs. The Indian plants now support Skoda’s global operations as well. Recently, parts from India have started reaching Skoda’s new plant in Vietnam. This facility will assemble Kushaq and Slavia cars for the Vietnamese market. This development highlights India’s growing role in Skoda’s global supply chain. It also supports the Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ vision, which focuses on producing for both domestic and international markets.
Piyush Arora, CEO & Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “It is not just about manufacturing 500,000 cars, but building and nurturing 500,000 connections. Every car that rolls out of our production lines, shares DNA of European engineering with unmatched quality, crafted with precision; delivering supreme comfort, safety, technology and driving dynamics. This achievement belongs as much to our customers as it does to our employees. Because what we’re manufacturing here isn’t just mobility, it’s a belief in what India can make for domestic as well as international markets. India plays a pivotal role in the Group’s growth strategy.
