Mahindra Scorpio N Off Road South Africa

Mahindra Scorpio N Off Road South Africa

Mahindra was the fastest-growing carmaker in South Africa in 2022 and the Scorpio N is a major reason for that.

This is a great video of the South Africans testing the Mahindra Scorpio N in an off-road expedition. South Africa is a huge market for the Indian auto giant. It has been selling SUVs there for a long time now. Now, Mahindra wants to showcase what its future vehicles look like. These are far away from the agricultural and rugged SUVs Mahindra was known for. For instance, the Scorpio N retains the hardcore off-roading capabilities of the previous generation model but adds the modern touch by getting the latest tech and convenience features and a comfortable cabin. Let us take a look at what the South Africans think of the off-roading capabilities of the Scorpio N.

South Africans Take Mahindra Scorpio N Off Road

This video has been uploaded by Mahindra South Africa (Official Page) on YouTube. It captures an off-roading expert instructing the host of the video on the tips for off-roading. They have the Scorpio N and decide to test its capabilities. They have chosen Klipbokkop 4×4 as the location to shoot this video which is a famous spot in SA. The instructor explains to the host how to set up the 4×4 mode and engage various drive modes depending on the terrain. This includes things like Rock, Sand, Mud, Snow, Grass, etc.

In the subsequent part of the video, the host takes the SUV up an incline with rocks underneath. Choosing the right mode ensures that the electronics adjust the vehicle components in such a way that the traction is maximized for that particular mode. This is seen when the Scorpio N is being driven in sludge, mud and rocks. There is even a section of dune-bashing in this video. In each scenario, the SUV performs impressively. There is hardly any moment where it slips up at all. We understand that the terrain is curated. But it is heartening to see how well it has performed. The drivers are clearly impressed by the performance of the Mahindra Scorpio N.

Specs

Mahindra Scorpio N comes powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel mill that churns out 128.6 kW and 400 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels via the 4XPLOR system. It has a low-range gearbox to ensure steady movement over harsh terrains. The prices start at R465,000 and go all the way up to R590,000. This makes it a great value for money as there are not many SUVs at this price point that are this capable.

What We Think

The South African market has been receiving the latest Mahindra products quite well making it the fastest-growing carmaker in the country. People already know the ruggedness associated with Mahindra SUVs for decades now. Hence, it becomes relatively easy for them to embrace this new generation of the already established products. Scorpio N strikes a great balance between possessing off-roading capabilities and offering comfort at the same time.
