Check out this quick drag race between Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and Yamaha Ray ZR 125, both of them new entrants in the 125cc segment.
Last year, Yamaha made a big entry in the 125cc segment after bringing both its popular scooters – Fascino and Ray ZR. Both of them are no longer available with a 110cc engine. In the 125cc segment, there are many new entrants including Suzuki Burgman Street, TVS Ntorq and Aprilia Storm 125.
Here is a long drag race between Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and Yamaha Ray ZR 125. Both are BS6 compliant and 125cc scooters. From the starting line, the Burgman Street takes a quick lead. Till the end, it manages to maintain a huge distance from the Ray, ultimately becoming the winner.

In the second round, again, Burgman Street takes the lead. However, for a nice couple of seconds, Yamaha Ray ZR 125 overtakes the Suzuki Burgman Street. Gap between both of them is very less. Soon, Burgman again takes the lead winning the race. Both are maxi scooters and have similar driving ergonomics and aerodynamics.
We have ridden both the scooters and found that Burgman Street is very peppy and punchy. It likes to gain speed very swiftly and with a comfortable riding posture, it becomes very fun to ride. Ray ZR on the other hand is better off in a relaxed driving manner with a punchy engine, but not at all peppy. Ray is a very humble scooter to ride.
Burgman gets a 124.6cc air-cooled engine that produces 8.7 PS and 10 Nm of peak torque. Ray on the other hand also gets a 124.6cc air-cooled engine but produces 8.2 PS and 9.7 Nm of torque. On papers the figures might not show a huge difference, but since these are very lightweight scooters, it matters to some extent. Burgman is priced at Rs 77,900 and the Ray ZR 125 is priced comparatively cheaper, from Rs 69,500 to Rs 72,500 (all prices ex-showroom).
