Tata Altroz Racer Edition Seen

The upcoming Tata Altroz Racer Edition has been seen on the road without any camouflage. For the unversed, the Racer Edition is a driving-focused avatar of the regular Altroz. The premium hatchback segment consists of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20. While the Baleno RS is no longer in sale in our market, Hyundai offers the N-Line iteration of the i20. Essentially, it comes with slight mechanical modifications to make it sportier to drive. In the same vein, the Racer Edition of the Altroz will bear some aesthetic and mechanical enhancements.

This post comes from auto.thrust on Instagram. The visuals capture what looks like the Racer Edition of the Tata Altroz in all its glory. Note that until now, we have seen this model wrapped under thick camouflage. It is common for carmakers to conceal the updates on new cars until the official launch. But this looks like one case where it is not so. Or, it is possible that the launch is finally so near that the Indian auto giant is in the final phase of testing and the camouflage would’ve come off by accident. In any case, we get to witness the performance hatch in a red colour with black body graphics on the bonnet and roof for a dual-tone effect. The alloy wheels look striking and the overall silhouette remains identical to the regular model.

Specs

Tata Altroz Racer Edition will draw power from the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine as the current model. It is good for 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. I believe there could be a choice between either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. But I must mention that specific details will emerge at the launch ceremony. Other top amenities include 6 airbags, a voice-activated electric sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, leatherette seats, rear AC vents, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster and more.

Our View

In recent times, performance-focused versions of regular cars are doing pretty well on sales charts. In fact, the N-Line range of Hyundai has achieved remarkable sales in the last few years. Also, as more carmakers ditch diesel powertrains due to strict emission norms, more turbo petrol engines are appearing. Hence, cars like the Tata Altroz Racer Edition become common and attractive for all those who wish to be driving enthusiasts without having to splurge on hardcore performance cars. I am interested to see how well the customers embrace the upcoming Tata Altroz Racer Edition.
