The Tata H5X SUV is going to be the homegrown automaker’s flagship product. It will feature Land Rover Discover’s platform but with the styling and diversity of a Tata vehicle.
We were quite amazed when Tata Motors made the first public debut of the H5X SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo. It was once again a reminder that our homegrown automaker is set to change its brand image completely in the near future. To a certain extent, it has already. The Tata H5X SUV is essentially the concept version of what in the near future will be its flagship vehicle in India. We expect, that the automaker is going to launch this vehicle in India sometime during the year 2019. Consequently, Tata has already started testing the SUV on India roads. Curtsey Motor Octane, new spy images of the Tata H5X SUV are now amongst us. As a result, revealing more details about this upcoming vehicle.
The vehicle which is seen in the spy images has a heavy camouflage. Hence, leaving quite a lot to one’s imagination. That said, what we can safely assume is that the production-ready H5X will be quite striking to look at. Tata Motors has said that the final road-going version of the H5X will carry forward 80-85 percent design elements from the concept.

This means that the Tata H5X will feature a very dominating exterior profile. Just like Tata’s recent product line-up, it will have sharp aesthetics. In addition to this, the SUV is going to feature a premium profile. This is because it will compete in the full-size SUV segment in India. Not only this, but the cabin is also likely to get an up-market treatment. The upholstery is going to be leather. With this material wrapping other cabin elements as well.
In -terms of features, the H5X will stand shoulder to shoulder with its rivals. Furthermore, the SUV will score high in terms of safety as well. The SUV will get dual-airbags and ABS as standard across the range. While the top-spec version can also come with up to 7 airbags.ย In addition to this, the H5X will offer a number of electronic driver aids as well. Like the electronic stability control, hill-decent control, traction control and much more.

Despite this new Tata SUV using the same platform as the Discovery, it will have an indigenouslyย developed engine. We expect that the Tata H5X will have the Fiat sourced, 2.0-litre Multi-jet engine. This oil-burner will feature two power options. The 5-seater version of the SUV will get a 140 BHP unit. While the 7-seater version could have the 170 BHP version. by default, the vehicle will have a ZF sourced 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The launch date of the Tata H5X SUV is still not out yet. However, we expect it to launch in India sometime during the second half of 2019. Tata Motors will price the H5X’s production version very competitively. Hence expect the prices to fall in the range of INR 20 lakh to 25 lakh.
